How to password protect a zip folder using 7zip
- Select the file or files you want to protect using 7 zip. When selected the document will have a blue selection around it.
- Right click on the document and select 7zip > Add to archive
A new screen will popup make sure the settings match the screenshot below.
Under Encryption type a password to use to lock the file/files.
NOTE: AES-256 is the recommend encryption type but is only support by other third party zip tools e.g. 7Zip.
Before sending the file make sure the receiver has 7zip or similar installed on there machine.
If the receiver does not have 7zip or similar installed then can use Zipcrypto as this is natively supported by Windows.
NOTE: Zipcrypto is not as secure as AES-256. If the document is very sensitive e.g. passport please do not use this method. Only use AES-256.
